Luisa writes,

I continue in my usual state, but always with immense bitterness in my soul because of the privation of blessed Jesus; at the most, He comes when I can take no more and after I have almost persuaded myself that He will come no more.

I saw Him for just a little, carrying a chalice in His hand, and He told me: “My daughter, if in addition to the food of love, you give Me the bread of your patience - because patient and suffering love is a more solid, more nourishing and fortifying food, for if love is not patient, it can be said that it is empty, light love and with no substance, and therefore it can be said that the necessary materials in order to form the bread of patience are lacking - …so, if you give Me this, (the bread of your patience) I will give you the sweet bread of grace.” And while saying this, He gave me to drink what was inside the chalice he carried in His hand, which seemed sweet, like a sort of liqueur which I am unable to distinguish. And He disappeared.

After this, I saw many foreign people around my bed - priests, gentlemen, women, and it seemed that they were going to come to visit me. Several of them were saying to the confessor: “Give us an account of this soul, of everything that the Lord has manifested to her and the graces He has given her, because the Lord manifested to us since 1882 that He would choose a victim; and the sign to recognize this victim would be that the Lord would keep her always in this state like a young woman, just as she was when He chose her, without aging or changing in her very nature.” Now, while they were saying this, I don’t know how, I saw myself just as I was when I became bedridden, without having changed a bit for having been in this state of sufferings for so many years.

Welcome. This is David Russell and Your Faith Anew, Daily Reflections Guiding You to Live in the Divine Will. Today's reflection is from the Book of Heaven by the servant of God Louisa Picaretta, april fourteenth, nineteen oh four, volume six. Let us begin in the will and name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Heavenly Father, you who sustain all things with your divine love, grant us the grace to endure with patience every trial. Teach us to offer not only our love, but our suffering love, steady, faithful, and persevering, so that all we do may become nourishment pleasing to your heart. Amen. A reading from the letter of Saint James, chapter one verses two to four. Count it all joy, my brethren, when you meet various trials, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness, and let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches in paragraph eighteen twenty. Christian hope unfolds from the beginning of Jesus' preaching in the proclamation of the Beatitudes. The Beatitudes raise our hope toward heaven as the new promised land. Sustained by hope, we can face trials with confidence, trusting that God works all things for good. In the divine will, patience is not passive endurance. It becomes an offering, a substance, a spiritual nourishment. What seems like suffering becomes a gift placed into the hands of Christ. Lewisa writes I continue in my usual state, but always with immense bitterness in my soul because of the privation of blessed Jesus. At the most he comes when I can take no more, and after I've almost persuaded myself that he will come no more. I saw him for just a little, carrying a chalice in his hand, and he told me My daughter, if in addition to the food of love, you give me the bread of your patience, because patient and suffering love is a more solid, more nourishing and fortifying food. For if love is not patient, it can be said that it is empty, light love, and with no substance, and therefore it can be said that the necessary materials in order to form the bread of patience are lacking. So if you give me this, the bread of your patience, I will give you the sweet bread of grace. And while saying this, he gave me to drink what was inside the chalice he carried in his hand, which seemed sweet, like a sort of liqueur which I am unable to distinguish, and he disappeared. After this I saw many foreign people around my bed, priests, gentlemen, women, and it seemed that they were going to come to visit me. Several of them were saying to the confessor, give us an account of this soul, of everything that the Lord has manifested to her and the graces he has given her, because the Lord manifested to us since eighteen eighty two that He would choose a victim. And the sign to recognize this victim would be that the Lord would keep her always in this state like a young woman, just as she was when he chose her, without aging or changing in her very nature. Now, while they were saying this, I don't know how, I saw myself just as I was when I became bedridden, without having changed a bit for having been in this state of sufferings for so many years. This passage gives us a most worthy spiritual insight. Love alone is not enough. Love must become patient. Jesus makes a distinction here that is noteworthy. He calls ordinary love light if it is not united with patience. Why? Because love without suffering is untested. Love without endurance has no weight. Love without perseverance has no substance. In the divine will, patience becomes something real. A bread. It requires time. It requires fire. So too. Patience is formed through waiting when God seems absent, enduring when consolation is withdrawn, trusting when everything feels empty. Louisa experiences the deepest trial, the privation of Jesus. And yet it is precisely there that her love becomes nourishment for him. This is extraordinary. We often think, what can I give God? Jesus answers, give me your patient love. Give me your silent endurance, hidden suffering, persevering faith, and in return, he gives the sweet bread of grace. This reveals a spiritual exchange. We offer him the bread of patience, he gives us the bread of grace. This is the divine will in action. Even more, the chalice he gives Louisa, something sweet, mysterious, represents how suffering, once offered, becomes transformed. What was bitter becomes sweet. And this is the secret. In the divine will, nothing is wasted. Every moment of waiting, every hidden suffering, every act of endurance becomes eternal nourishment. Let us pray. Jesus, you who hunger for love that endures, I offer you today not only my love, but my patience. Take every moment of waiting, every hidden suffering, every quiet struggle, and transform it into the bread that nourishes your heart. When I feel your absence, teach me to remain. When I'm tempted to give up, strengthen me to persevere. Let my love not be light or fleeting, but solid, rooted, and faithful. Knead my soul in the fire of your will until every act becomes united with you. And in exchange, Lord, give me the sweet bread of your grace, that I may live not in myself, but entirely in you. Amen. Thank you for joining your faith anew today. Patience is not weakness, it is strength in its purest form. It is love that refuses to fade. It is faith that remains when nothing is felt. Today, offer your patience to Jesus. Let even your struggles become a gift. Until tomorrow, stay in his will, and your faith will be made anew.
