Luisa writes,

This morning I felt a fear within me that it might not be Jesus, but the devil, who wanted to deceive me. Jesus came, and seeing me with this fear, He said to me: “Humility is the safeguard of the celestial favors. Humility clothes the soul with such safety that the tricks of the devil cannot penetrate into her. Humility places all celestial graces in safety, so much so, that when I see humility, I let flow, abundantly, all kinds of celestial favors. Therefore, do not want to disturb yourself for this, but rather, with a simple eye, look always into your interior, to see whether you are invested with beautiful humility, and do not worry about all the rest.” Then He showed me many religious people and, among them, priests - even of holy life. But as good as they were, they lacked that spirit of simplicity in believing in the many graces and the many ways the Lord uses with souls. Jesus said to me: “I communicate Myself both to the humble and to the simple, because they immediately believe in my graces and take them into great consideration, though they may be ignorant and poor. But with these others you see, I am very reluctant, because the first step which draws the soul near Me is belief; and it happens that these, with all of their science and doctrine, and even holiness, never come to experience a ray of celestial light – that is, they walk along the natural way, and they never arrive at touching, even slightly, that which is supernatural. This is also the reason for which in the course of my mortal life there was not one learned, one priest, one man of power, among my followers, but all ignorant and of low condition – because these were more humble and simple, and also more disposed to make great sacrifices for Me.”

Welcome. This is David Russell and your faith anew, daily reflections guiding you to live in the divine will. Today's reflection is from the Book of Heaven by the servant of God Louisa Picaretta, may nineteenth, eighteen ninety nine, volume two. Let us begin in the will and name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Lord Jesus, grant us the grace of true humility and simplicity of heart. Remove from us every pride, fear, and attachment to human wisdom that keeps us from trusting completely in your divine action. Teach us to receive your graces with childlike faith and loving surrender. May our souls become open and receptive to all you desire to accomplish within us through your divine will. Amen. Saint Peter writes in his first epistle chapter five verses five and six. Clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another, for God opposes the proud, but bestows favor on the humble. So humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God that He may exalt you in due time. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches in paragraph two hundred ninety nine because God creates through wisdom, his creation is ordered. You have arranged all things by measure and number and weight. The universe created in and by the eternal word, the image of the invisible God is destined for and addressed to man himself created in the image of God and called to a personal relationship with God. The Church teaches that all grace and divine order flow from God's wisdom and love. The humble soul recognizes her dependence upon the Creator and willingly submits to his divine plan. Through humility and trust, the soul becomes receptive to supernatural light and enters more deeply into communion with the divine will. And now let us enter into this beautiful lesson from the Book of Heaven. Louisa writes This morning I felt a fear within me that it might not be Jesus, but the devil who wanted to deceive me. Jesus came, and seeing me with this fear, he said to me Humility is the safeguard of the celestial favors. Humility clothes the soul with such safety that the tricks of the devil cannot penetrate into her. Humility places all celestial graces in safety, so much so that when I see humility, I let flow abundantly all kinds of celestial favors. Therefore, do not want to disturb yourself for this, but rather with a simple eye, look always into your interior to see whether you are invested with beautiful humility, and do not worry about all the rest. Then he showed me many religious people, and among them priests, even of holy life. But as good as they were, they lacked that spirit of simplicity in believing in the many graces and the many ways the Lord uses with souls. Jesus said to me, I communicate myself both to the humble and to the simple, because they immediately believe in my graces and take them into great consideration, though they may be ignorant and poor. But with these others, you see, I am very reluctant, because the first step which draws the soul near me is belief. And it happens that these, with all their science and doctrine and even holiness, never come to experience a ray of celestial light. That is, they walk along the natural way, and they never arrive at touching even slightly that which is supernatural. This is also the reason for which in the course of my mortal life there was not one learned, one priest, one man of power among my followers, but all ignorant and of low condition, because these were more humble and simple, and also more disposed to make great sacrifices for me. In today's passage, Jesus reveals that humility is the safeguard of celestial favors. Humility protects the soul because it places her in truth before God. The humble soul does not rely upon herself, her own understanding or her own strength. Instead, she rests completely in God and trusts in his divine action. Louisa begins by expressing fear that she might be deceived. Yet Jesus immediately reassures her that humility itself becomes protection against deception. The devil cannot easily penetrate a soul clothed in humility because humility removes pride, self-exaltation, and attachment to personal greatness. The humble soul seeks only God and remains open to correction, guidance, and grace. Jesus also speaks about simplicity. He explains that many learned and holy people fail to experience supernatural light because they remain too attached to natural reasoning and human understanding. Their knowledge becomes an obstacle when it prevents them from trusting in the extraordinary ways God works within souls. Throughout salvation history, God has often chosen the humble, the poor, and the simple to accomplish his greatest works. The apostles themselves were not chosen because of worldly power or intellectual prestige, but because they were willing to believe, surrender, and sacrifice for Christ. Living in the divine will requires this same disposition. God is not seeking complicated souls. He seeks souls who trust him completely, who abandon themselves to his will, and who remain little before him. Humility allows the divine will to reign because the soul no longer insists upon her own way. Today, Jesus invites us to examine our hearts. Are we open to his action? Do we trust him with childlike simplicity? Or do pride and self-reliance close us to his grace? The more humble we become, the more room God has to pour his divine life into our souls.

Let us pray.

SPEAKER_01

Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make my heart like unto yours. Strip away every trace of pride, self-reliance, and fear within me. Teach me to walk before you in simplicity and truth. Lord, I don't want to rely upon my own wisdom or understanding. I want to trust in you completely. Give me the humility that opens the soul to heavenly grace and protects her from deception. May I become little in my own eyes so that your divine will may reign fully within me. Help me to believe in your love, your guidance, and your supernatural action in every circumstance of my life. Jesus, let humility become the safeguard of my soul, and let simplicity lead me ever closer to your sacred heart.
