Welcome. This is David Russell and Your Faith Anew, Daily Reflections Guiding You to Live in the Divine Will. Today's reflection is from the Book of Heaven by the servant of God Luisa Picaretta, october twelfth, nineteen hundred, volume four. Let us begin in the will and name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Jesus, before I ask you for anything this morning, help me receive your presence. You have already turned toward me with love. I don't have to persuade you to care. Quiet the part of me that keeps measuring whether I have done enough, received enough, or become enough. Let me rest in the truth that I belong to you. Give me an attentive heart, willing to discover goodness wherever you have placed it. May this time with you make me more available to the people I will meet today. Amen. A reading from the gospel according to Luke, chapter fourteen, verses twelve to fourteen. Then he said to the host who invited him When you hold a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors, in case they may invite you back, and you have repayment. Rather, when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind. Blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches in paragraph twenty five forty Envy represents a form of sadness and therefore a refusal of charity. The baptized person should struggle against it by exercising good will. Envy often comes from pride. The baptized person should train himself to live in humility. Would you like to see God glorified by you? Then rejoice in your brother's progress, and you will immediately give glory to God, because his servant could conquer envy by rejoicing in the merits of others. God will be praised. Let us listen with a willingness to let Jesus reach whatever we have kept beyond the touch of his grace. Louisa writes My adorable Jesus continues to come. This morning he was wearing a thick crown of thorns. I removed it very gently. I put it on my head and said Lord, help me to drive it in. And he this time I want you to drive it in yourself. I want to see what you can do and how you want to suffer for love of me. I drove it well in, more so, since it was about showing him how far my love of suffering for Jesus reached, so much so that he himself, all moved, clasping me, told me enough, enough, for my heart cannot bear seeing you suffer more. And as I remained very much in suffering, my beloved Jesus would do nothing but come and go. After this he assumed the appearance of the crucified. He shared his pains with me and said to me, My daughter, the most powerful enemies of man are the love of pleasures, of riches, and of honors. These enemies render man unhappy, because they penetrate even into his heart and consume him continuously. They embitter him, they bring him down so much as to make him lose all happiness. And I, on Calvary, defeated these three enemies, and obtained from man the grace to conquer them too, giving back to him the lost happiness. But man, always ungrateful and heedless, rejects my grace and loves these enemies fiercely, which put the human heart in a continuous torture. Having said this, he disappeared, and I comprehended with such clarity the truthfulness of these words, that I felt abhorrence and hate for these enemies. May the Lord be always blessed, and may everything be for his glory. Someone else is thanked for something you helped accomplish. You smile. You may even join the applause. But later, while washing a cup or driving home, you find yourself rehearsing what nobody mentioned your hours, your effort, your part. It's a small moment. Yet Jesus can meet us there with remarkable tenderness. The desire to be appreciated is human. Gratitude matters, and overlooking another person's work can be unkind. But something within us suffers when appreciation becomes a condition we place upon love. We begin by giving ourselves. Then almost without noticing, we wait for payment. In today's gospel, Jesus speaks about hospitality offered to people who cannot repay it. He invites us into a generosity that leaves the recipient free. The guest does not have to become useful to the host. Consider how quietly demanding that is. Can I do something good without making another person responsible for my satisfaction afterward? The catechism's teaching about envy brings this question even closer. Charity teaches us to rejoice in another person's good. Someone else's blessing need not become evidence that we have been forgotten. Perhaps a friend receives the opportunity we wanted. Perhaps another person's work bears visible fruit while ours remains hidden. We can acknowledge the disappointment honestly before God and still ask for the grace to give thanks. We don't have to manufacture a cheerful feeling. An honest beginning may be very simple. Jesus, I'm struggling to be glad for them. Please help me love them. That prayer is already a movement toward freedom. At Mass, we receive the same Lord as the person whose gifts unsettle us. Jesus gives himself to each of us. We don't receive a smaller share of his care because he loves someone else completely. His generosity exposes the smallness of our comparisons, but it also makes healing possible. Living in the divine will reaches into these unremarkable moments. We consent to God's goodness even when it arrives in someone else's life. We ask Jesus to form our response so that our words and actions agree with the love He is giving us. There may still be an ache. Grace does not require us to pretend otherwise. We can bring that ache to prayer without feeding it through comparison or complaint. And then we can do one quiet thing. Congratulate the person sincerely. Thank God for what their work will accomplish. Continu the good entrusted to us. Perhaps nobody will notice that inward act of charity, but the person before us will be a little freer to enjoy their blessing without having to apologize for it. Today, when someone tells you their good news, give them time to finish. Ask them about it. Let their joy have room in your presence. Let us pray. Jesus, I bring you the conversations I have continued long after everyone else went home. You know the words I wished someone had said to me. You know why they mattered. Receive that tender place in me. Let me speak to you honestly, and teach me to listen when you answer through the ordinary kindness of another person. I thank you for the people whose goodness has sustained me without asking to be noticed. Some of their names I know, others I may never learn. Bless them with the nearness of your love. In your divine will, I offer you my attention, my work, and my next encounter. Help me welcome each person without quietly asking what they can give me. When another person is flourishing, make me generous in encouragement. When someone else feels forgotten, help me notice. And when my own heart needs reassurance, draw me close enough to remember that I may ask you for it. Jesus, let the love I receive from you become a gift someone else can freely receive. Amen.
